Foundations for a Trauma-Responsive Classroom

The experts all agree that one of the key elements of being a trauma-informed school is that all school staff have a foundational knowledge of trauma and its impact and what it means to practice trauma-informed care. During this transformational session, leaders and teachers in your building will be empowered as the agents of change as the lens they are using to view students shifts from, “What’s wrong with this student?” to “What’s happened to this student?” This session will then provide a framework for the practice of trauma-informed care and will provide guidance and practical tools on integrating trauma informed resilience-building strategies into the school and its classrooms.

A Trauma Informed Approach to Family Engagement

Need a more effective approach to supporting and engaging families? Regardless of the location of your school or district, many of your students and families have been impacted by trauma. Adverse Childhood Experiences and toxic stress can have serious effects on students and school outcomes. As a result of this course, you and your school will be empowered to support students and their families impacted by trauma by adopting a Trauma Informed approach to family engagement. We explore the impact of trauma on children and families and provide trauma-informed practices and processes that schools can use to actively engage and empower families, and effectively meet the diverse needs of their students and the broader school community. This course was designed in collaboration with renowned author and thought leader Tom Hierck and contains many proven strategies from his book Trauma Sensitive Instruction: Creating a Safe and Predictable Classroom Environment.
