The Assessment Development Academy helps instructional leaders, content specialists, and classroom teachers develop a framework for effective instructional assessment.
Academy Expected Outcomes
- Strengthen the program of assessment for a building/district
- Develop a research-based assessment framework
- Utilize short-cycle assessments to increase student learning
- Increase student engagement through performance task development
- Engage leaders, teachers and students in assessment as a continuous improvement process
The Assessment Development Academy includes the following components:
Onsite Professional Learning Sessions
Session 1, 3, 4, and 5 are full-day face-to-face professional learning sessions. Session 2 includes two consecutive days on-site professional development.
Virtual Professional Learning Sessions
A total of 16 hours of virtual professional learning is included in this Academy. Session 1 includes three 2 hours virtual sessions. Session 2 includes two 2 hours virtual sessions. Sessions 3, 4, and 5 each include one 2 hours virtual follow-up session.
Professional Learning Sessions:
- Session 1: Assessment Program Development
Session 1, 3, 4, and 5 are full-day face-to-face professional learning sessions. Session 2 includes two consecutive days on-site professional development.
- Session 2: Strengthening Instruction through Short-Cycle Assessments (SCA)
Develop a plan for short-cycle assessments that connects high-quality instruction and assessment practices.
- Session 3: Engaging Learners in the Assessment Process
Enhance the short-cycle assessment plan through the creation of rubrics and the development of instructional strategies to engage students in the learning process.
- Session 4: Constructing Effective and Engaging Performance Tasks
Create authentic cross-curricular tasks that engage students in deep, transferable learning.
- Session 5: Planning and Continuous Improvement
Reflect on new professional learning from the Academy. Develop an actionable plan for next steps aligned to building/district strategic goals.
