Is this workshop appropriate for people who do not have a PowerSchool product?
Yes—this workshop is designed for anyone involved in the master scheduling process, regardless of the tools or methods currently used. Whether you’re working within a student information system (SIS), using spreadsheets, relying on paper and pen, or even mapping out schedules on the gymnasium floor, this training provides foundational strategies and practical insights that apply across all formats.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of scheduling principles, team collaboration, timeline planning, and how to align scheduling decisions with school goals and student needs. The workshop is especially beneficial for administrators, counselors, registrars, and anyone who contributes to building or refining the master schedule.
What software will be used during the workshop?
This workshop is not tied to any specific software platform. Instead, it focuses on the core principles and strategies of master schedule building—concepts that are applicable regardless of the tools your school currently uses, whether that’s a student information system (SIS), spreadsheets, or manual methods.
For online workshops, participants will access a dedicated practicum website to apply what they’ve learned through interactive activities. This hands-on experience reinforces key concepts in a practical setting.
Technical Requirements for Online Practicum:
- A laptop or desktop computer (tablets and mobile devices are not recommended)
- Stable internet connection
- A modern web browser such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (latest version recommended)
- Ability to access external websites (please check with your IT department if firewall restrictions apply)
- Headphones or speakers for audio, and a microphone if participating in discussions
If you have any concerns about technical setup, feel free to contact us at stac@powerschool.com prior to the workshop.
Will block scheduling, team-based models, middle school structures, and other unique scenarios be covered?
Yes—this workshop is designed to address a wide range of scheduling models and school configurations. While the core focus is on foundational scheduling principles, we also explore how these concepts apply to unique and complex scenarios, including:
- Block scheduling (e.g., A/B days, 4×4 models)
- Team-based scheduling (common in middle schools or interdisciplinary programs)
- Middle school structures with flexible groupings and exploratory courses
- Other specialized formats, such as academies, magnet programs, or alternative education models
Participants are encouraged to bring questions and examples from their own schools. Our goal is to provide strategies that are adaptable and responsive to the diverse needs of different educational environments.
Will I need a laptop for this workshop?
Yes, participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or other internet-enabled device to fully engage in the workshop’s interactive components. While we won’t be using any specific student information system (SIS), the training includes a digital practicum activity that reinforces key scheduling concepts in a hands-on format.
If you have questions about technical requirements or device compatibility, please contact us at stac@powerschool.com.
Am I responsible for making my own hotel reservations for an onsite workshop?
