Announcing Our Keynote Speaker at PSU Chicago

PowerSchool University is excited to welcome Dr. Tara Downs to PSU Chicago. Dr. Downs is an innovative educational leader and systems transformation specialist currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for Caroline County Public Schools. She leads districtwide efforts across instruction, student services, and special populations, partnering with school boards, educators, and families to ensure every student is empowered for success.

Guided by her CliftonStrengths—Input, Strategic, Intellection, Arranger, and Futuristic—Dr. Downs is known for translating complex data into actionable strategies that drive measurable results. Since 2022, she has led the redesign of the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), reducing Tier III placements from over 30% to under 15%, increasing ELA and math proficiency, improving attendance and student behavior outcomes, and reducing instructional expenditures by $1.5 million through strategic resource alignment. Dr. Downs has also driven measurable improvements in daily attendance and a reduction in chronic absenteeism and disciplinary incidents.

With more than 20 years of K–12 experience as a principal, assistant principal, and school librarian, Dr. Downs bridges policy and practice. She holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and serves as an adjunct professor at Towson University. A frequent speaker on data-driven change, she previously shared her wisdom at other PowerSchool conferences.

PSU Social Event

Join us for a reception and Major League Baseball game at Rate Field!  Enjoy food and drink on the White Sox Patio, then grab a stadium seat as you watch the Chicago White Sox take on the New York Yankees on the evening of Tuesday, July 28. 

4:30-6:00 pm – busses available to Rate Field
5:00-7:00 pm – PSU networking reception on the Patio
6:40 pm-end* – Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees
6:30-10:00 pm* – busses available to return to Marriott Magnificent Mile
*Game times vary but are estimated at two and a half hours.  Guests can arrive and leave at their leisure according to the schedule above.   

The cost of the social event is included in your PSU Chicago registration, but all PSU attendees must RSVP for this event. Attendees may bring a single guest for the discounted rate of $110 USD.

To sign up for or decline this event, go to My Registrations and choose RSVP under Exclusives.  There is no additional cost for your participation in the social event.

If you wish to bring a single guest, you must RSVP by June 6 by selecting Attending with Guest and providing their name. Guest tickets are available at the discounted rate of $110 USD, payable in advance via CVENT.

What to Expect at Check In

During check-in, you’ll receive: 

To actively participate in hands-on activities and to access curriculum, bring a laptop with you. Your laptop must have administrative access in order to download any required content or programs.

Please work with your IT department to ensure you have access.  Learn more about hardware recommendations.

Attire – What to Wear

PowerSchool University is casual, so please wear what is comfortable to you. Keep in mind that temperatures in the meeting spaces can be unpredictable, so we recommend bringing a sweater and dressing in layers.

Certificate of Participation

A Certificate of Participation will be made available to all participants on Customer Education Campus. Instructions for accessing the certificate will be sent via email at the conclusion of the event.

Hotel Information

Sessions and meals take place at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. We’ve arranged a nightly discount rate of $269 + tax USD.

Book your room at the preferred rate by 5:00 pm CT on Friday, July 3 using the dedicated PSU online reservation site or call (312) 836-0100.  

  • Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis 
  • Reservations received after Friday, July 3 may not receive the discount conference rate and will be accepted based on availability 
  • A credit card deposit equal to one night’s stay is required to hold each individual reservation 
  • Want to extend your stay? The preferred rate is available three days prior and three days after the event, based on availability. 
  • Check-in time is 4:00 pm, check-out time is 11:00 am. 
Travel Information

The recommended Airport is Chicago Midway Airport (MDW), approximately 12 miles from the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.  You can also fly into the O’Hare Airport (ORD), which is a larger airport and has more airline options but is approximately 17 miles from the venue. 

 

Self-parking is available at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mileat the rate of $35 USD daily.  The parking facility is located at 50 East Ohio and is not owned or operated by the hotel. 

Cancellation Policy

To cancel your registration, please email psu@powerschool.com as soon as possible, but no later than 5:00 p.m. (PT) on Friday, June 26, 2026. Any cancellation request received after this date will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee. If you cannot attend and do not cancel your request, you will be responsible for the full registration fee.
